A Message from Chuck: Throwing Away the World’s Yardstick

Have you ever been part of a group where everyone is subtly trying to figure out who is the most successful, who is the most spiritual, or who has their life the most “together”? We do it at the office, we do it in our neighborhoods, and if we’re honest, we even do it in the foyer of the church. We’re constantly measuring, constantly ranking, and constantly wondering, “How do I stack up against the person next to me?” It’s an exhausting way to live, and friend, it is a race that has no finish line.

In this video, we are asking a penetrating question: Who Measures Up Best?

If we use the world’s yardstick—money, power, or prestige—someone will always be “better” than us. But if we use God’s yardstick—absolute holiness—none of us even get off the ground. That might sound like bad news, but it’s actually the beginning of the best news you’ll ever hear. We’ll explore:

  • The Fallacy of Vertical Ranking: Why trying to be “better than most” is a spiritual dead end when standing before a perfect God.
  • The Level Ground of the Cross: Understanding that in God’s eyes, the “best” among us and the “worst” among us are in the exact same boat—in desperate need of a Savior.
  • The Freedom of Being “Measured” in Christ: How to stop performing for acceptance and start living from a position of being fully loved and perfectly righteous in Him.

You can stop trying to climb the ladder of comparison. The only measurement that matters was settled two thousand years ago on a hill called Calvary. Let’s learn how to rest in the fact that, in Christ, you already measure up.

Insight for Living Broadcast

I've been listening to the story of Jonah, particularly of his stubbornness and his disobedience. Pastor Chuck, I was acting like Jonah, and I am stubborn. When I decided to obey, God was there. I believe that God wanted me to experience the blessing of obedience. Thank you for your teachings. God bless you always. —C. G.
