My friend, it is a joy to share a few thoughts with you today on what it truly means to be unselfish.
When we talk about someone who is truly unselfish, we are describing a person who is generous—generous with their time and possessions, their energy and money. This spirit is defined by thoughtfulness and is always accompanied by a servant’s heart.
Unselfishness transforms every role we play:
• When a husband operates with an unselfish spirit, he understands that he must subjugate his own wants and desires to the needs of his wife and family.
• When a mother is truly unselfish, she is not irked by having to give up her plans for the sake of the children.
• When an athlete grasps unselfishness, the outcome is clear: it’s the team that matters, not winning the top honors personally.
• And finally, when a Christian lives an unselfish life, it means that others mean more than self.
It is my prayer that we all strive to live with that beautiful, unselfish spirit that prioritizes others above our own needs and desires.
