Many Other Signs . . . Many Other Things

What is the Purpose of John’s Gospel?

In this final message of the series Exalting Christ . . . The Lamb of God, Pastor Chuck Swindoll explores the concluding verses of the Gospel of John. He highlights the author’s deliberate choice to leave out countless miracles and teachings in order to focus on a singular, life-transforming objective: that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. This message serves as an inspiring bookend to the story of the One who stepped into our broken world to bring grace and truth.

Why Did John Leave So Much Out?

John admits that if every one of Jesus’ actions were recorded, “the world itself would not contain the books that would be written.” Pastor Chuck explains that the Bible is not an exhaustive biography, but a divine selection. John chose specific “signs”—miracles with a message—to act as a spiritual compass, pointing directly to the deity of Christ and the necessity of a personal response.

The Impact of Encountering the Lamb

The ObservationThe Biblical EvidenceThe Personal Result
His Miraculous SignsSelected miracles (turning water to wine, raising Lazarus).Confidence in His power over nature, sin, and death.
His Unique IdentityHis claim to be the Son of God and the “I Am.”A shift from seeing Him as a “good teacher” to seeing Him as Lord.
His Intentional RecordA book written specifically to produce faith. The discovery of “life in His name” rather than empty religion.
His Infinite ReachMore deeds than all the world’s books could hold.A sense of awe and worship for our limitless Savior.

A Conclusion That Never Ends

Pastor Chuck reminds us that while the series on John’s Gospel is ending, our journey with the Lamb of God is just beginning. The “many other things” Jesus did continue to impact lives today through the presence of the Holy Spirit. Once you truly encounter the Christ revealed in these pages, you will never be the same. The end of the book is simply an invitation to the beginning of a new life.

Coming to Terms with Your Calling

Throughout the three years the disciples learned from Jesus, they watched Him calm storms, walk on water, and confront the religious establishment . . . all while casting His saving net into humanity’s sea.

Chuck Swindoll examines how these disillusioned followers of Jesus struggled to understand the meaning of His death. Many lessons can be learned about forgiveness and grace as Chuck leads listeners back to the tranquil shores of Galilee where the discouraged disciples met the risen Savior.

A Miraculous Resurrection

“It is finished.” To John, this must have sounded more like, “It’s all over.” Jesus’ marred and bloodied body finally sagged on the cross, finally still and quiet. The One who had snatched the official’s son from death and called Lazarus out of the tomb—the Resurrection and the Life—now hung limp and lifeless, drawn down from a tree and buried in a cold tomb.

Listen as Chuck Swindoll carefully guides you from the Cross to the tomb and from death to the reality of the resurrection. You’ll learn the true meaning of Jesus’ words, “It is finished!” And discover, as John ultimately did, that it was far from over!

Death on a Cross

Though often worn as sparkling jewelry today, during the days when Jesus walked on earth the cross represented not faith but failure, not morality but lawlessness, not respect but unspeakable shame. Yet it’s Christ’s death on the cross that brought about redemption for the world.

Join Chuck Swindoll as he explains how, in the cruel brutality of Christ’s death, there is something beautiful; in the rough-cut wood of the cross, there is something golden and eternal for all who kneel before it in repentance and faith.

A Crack in the Rock

Poor Peter. The most shameful moment of his life—denying the Lord he vowed he’d defend—is written on the pages of Scripture for all the world to see. But it wasn’t the world’s eyes that broke his faltering heart; it was the look in Jesus’ eyes that brought hot tears of grief and shame to his own.

Listen to Chuck Swindoll as he unpacks this penetrating scene of denial and shame and explains how the grace of Christ is greater than any human failure or sin. You’ll be stirred by Chuck’s explanation of how Jesus gently mended the broken pieces of Peter’s heart and how He lovingly desires to do the same for you!

Rush to Judgment

From all outward appearances, Jesus never got a fair shake. In fact, some curiously uncommon alliances formed against Jesus to ensure He would never be heard from again.

Join Chuck Swindoll as he explains the insidious forces behind the mockery of injustice that ultimately led to Christ’s cruel death on the Cross.

Arrest and Trial

For over three years, Jesus was watched by Jewish religious leaders whose hostility grew with each passing month. With the cunning of foxes and the ruthlessness of wolves, this unholy alliance plotted the Lord’s demise.

Chuck Swindoll examines the events that culminated in Jesus’ arrest and subsequent trial as, with lanterns and torches, the Roman cohort searched to find the Light of the World. You’ll be inspired by watching Jesus stand—without pretense, without protection—and shine His light of grace on the darkness of the most sinister human hearts.

Four Words That Keep Us Going

Repeatedly, during our Lord’s final night with His disciples, He spoke about going away—without them. The mix of emotions among those frail and doubting disciples was more than understandable.

Yet, Christ made certain to reassure them that grief would not have the final word. Chuck Swindoll explains the four words that gave Jesus’ discouraged and weary followers the courage they needed to keep believing.

Functions of the Holy Spirit

On the last night Jesus spent with His disciples, He had much to say about what their lives would look like without Him. But He didn’t want them to despair; instead, He revealed to them the secrets of both His victorious life and their own victorious lives.

Chuck Swindoll explains what Jesus revealed to His brothers and how the promise of the Holy Spirit brings hope and strength for all Christians struggling to face adversity.

The Promise of Persecution

The Christian life is a road paved with the sharp stones of persecution—a truth taught and exemplified by Christ Himself as He prepared His disciples for the future.

Join Chuck Swindoll for this practical but compelling study from John 15 about how believers can face persecution with courage and boldness. You’ll also learn the three reasons why persecution will occur and how the peace and power of Christ allows His followers to stand firm to the end.

Insight for Living Broadcast

Whenever I'm going through something, your sermons/talks give me such strength to make it through the day. I listen most every day at work (with my headphones on) but I notice that it helps me stay focused and calm hearing you speaking the words that God wants me to hear for that moment in time. So again, thank you! —A.R. from Massachusetts
