Let’s give some thought to several reasons worship is so significant. What happens when that “connection” occurs? Whether it’s in a gathering of thousands, or when I’m alone in a closet of prayer with Him, or perhaps with a few, what happens?

Worship magnifies my God. All else is eclipsed in His presence.

Worship enlarges my horizons. I begin to see beyond the self-imposed fences.

Worship eclipses my fears. I soon forget those things that gnaw at me when I worship.

Worship changes my perspective. It is nothing short of remarkable. An attitude on a Friday is so different than on a Monday, because sandwiched between a Friday and a Monday is a worship service in which my whole perspective changes.  

I was leaving a worship service late one evening, and I had parked my pickup alongside the curb. One of my friends spotted it as he was leaving the meeting and tucked a brief note under the windshield wiper. But when I realized it was a note, I stopped right then and read it.

It spoke of a change of perspective that had occurred in his life. It wasn’t something I had done or said. I can change no one’s perspective. It wasn’t the mortar, or the brick, or the carpet, or the pulpit, or the sound system. It was the living God who had invaded that man’s life and touched him deeply in his churning place and calmed his spirit. And he didn’t know anything better to do than to thank one of the people who had been present at the same experience of worship. I understood. He was refreshed, which brings me to the fifth reason worship is so significant.

Worship refreshes my spirit. How can we possibly describe this?

Worship enhances my work. When I put worship to work in my life, when I see worship as a response to God woven through the fabric of my day, it’s amazing how my attitude toward tasks changes. Life takes on a melodious dimension that sets our hearts to singing.
