Someone once counted all the promises in the Bible and came up with an amazing figure of almost 7500. Among that large number are some specific promises servants can claim today.
I have discovered that there are times the only hope to keep you going will be in something God has declared in His Word, promising that your work is not in vain.
God’s promise through His prophet Isaiah has often encouraged me:
“Do not fear, for I am with you;
Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, I will also help you,
I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10 NASB)
And a little further on, Isaiah reassures us when we feel forgotten:
But Zion said, “The Lord has forsaken me,
And the Lord has forgotten me.”
“Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.” (Isaiah 49:14–16 NASB)
I call that fantastic! More faithful, more caring than a nursing mother, our God watches over and cares about us.
We have frequently received counsel from Paul the apostle. Let’s look now at two of the promises God led him to write.
Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison. (2 Corinthians 4:16–17 NASB)
And who can overlook Paul’s promise to the Philippians?
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19 NASB)
No. Our faithful God will never forget His own.
