Overview:

Hebrews 11:24–28

Moses chose the hard road of caring for his people rather than living a life of luxury in the Egyptian palace.

Hebrews 11:24–28 makes it plain that he chose ill treatment rather than the fleeting pleasures of sin. Moses received eternal rewards and honor beyond his imagination as a result of following God!

Listen in as Pastor Chuck Swindoll outlines the discernment, determination, and discipline it takes to follow Christ. Living for God is always worth the cost!

Message Summary:

In this final message of the series Moses: A Man of Selfless Dedication, Pastor Chuck Swindoll looks beyond the historical narrative to the internal convictions that fueled Moses’ journey. By examining the New Testament commentary on Moses’ life, this study reveals that the “secret” to his legacy was not his natural talent, but a series of deliberate, faith-based choices. This conclusion challenges believers to apply the same discernment and discipline to their own walk with Christ.

Message Key Facts:

  • The Rejection of Status: When he came of age, Moses made the conscious decision to refuse being called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing to identify with the suffering people of God.

  • The Evaluation of Wealth: Moses considered the “reproach of Christ” to be of greater value than the vast treasures of Egypt, demonstrating an eternal rather than a temporal perspective.

  • The Source of Courage: Moses did not fear the wrath of the king because he “endured as seeing Him who is unseen.”

  • The Obedience of Faith: By faith, he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, trusting God’s specific plan for protection and deliverance.

Message References:

Primary Scripture Reference: Hebrews 11:24–28
  • Hebrews 11:24–25: The choice to endure ill-treatment with the people of God rather than enjoying the “fleeting pleasures of sin.”

  • Hebrews 11:26: The motivation of looking toward the “reward,” prioritizing spiritual inheritance over earthly wealth.

  • Hebrews 11:27: The discipline of perseverance fueled by a constant awareness of God’s presence.

  • Hebrews 11:28: The specific act of faith that spared the firstborn of Israel through the Passover.

Applying Moses’ Legacy to Our Lives

Pastor Chuck Swindoll outlines the three “Ds” required to live a life of selfless dedication today:

  1. Discernment: The ability to see past the immediate pleasures of the world to the eternal consequences of our actions. Like Moses, we must choose our identity carefully.

  2. Determination: The resolve to follow God even when the road is hard. Living for God is a marathon, not a sprint, and it requires a heart set on the ultimate reward.

  3. Discipline: The daily habit of “seeing Him who is unseen.” Our faith is maintained through the consistent discipline of seeking God’s face and relying on His strength.

  4. Faith is Worth the Cost: Moses’ life proves that whatever is sacrificed for the sake of the Gospel is more than compensated by the honor and presence of God.

Insight for Living Broadcast

I didn't know much about grace, so I decided to read The Grace Awakening. I have learned a lot about letting people be different than me and realizing that God's grace doesn't condemn me but rather forgives and covers me with His righteousness! I shouldn't be a perfectionist because I can never do everything perfectly. If I let God work through me though, I will be living a life pleasing to Him! —T. Z. from Oklahoma
