Philippians 3:1–11
Every motivational speaker will tell you that you can “reach for the stars.” They’ll have a five-step plan guaranteeing success in business, finance, and relationships. If we’re not careful, we’ll believe that the propagators of self-promotion hold the answers to eternal questions. Their message is persuasive: Tout your achievements, your pedigree, your hard work. If anyone ever boasted of such things, it was Paul—at least until he met the Lord on a dusty road to Damascus. After that, all of his achievements he considered as “rubbish.”
