Overview:

An Overview of Ephesians

In Paul’s collected letters, he spent a great deal of time fighting off various troubles in the churches—false teaching, dissension, legalism, and immoral lifestyles. However, when he wrote to the church at Ephesus, he avoided all that. Instead, Paul offered a view of what Christ did for us and why. His letter provides us with a higher perspective—a new vision of our purpose and calling as the body of Christ and how we are to live it out. It blends some of the loftiest theology in Scripture with some of the most practical teaching. And it shows us the deeper reality of God’s all-encompassing rule and how our daily, seemingly mundane lives contribute to the accomplishment of His glorious plan.

Message Summary:

In the collection of Paul’s New Testament letters, Ephesians occupies a unique and exalted position. While many of Paul’s other writings were penned to correct specific errors—such as legalism in Galatia or chaos in Corinth—the letter to the Ephesians is different. In this introductory message from the Becoming a People of Grace series, Pastor Chuck Swindoll presents a bird’s-eye view of this life-changing letter, which offers a “higher perspective” of our purpose and calling in Christ.

This overview details how Ephesians serves as a bridge between the spiritual wealth we have in the heavenly places and the practical walk we are called to in the world. Pastor Chuck emphasizes that this letter is designed to lift our eyes above the mundane details of life to see the glorious, all-encompassing rule of God and how our lives contribute to His eternal plan.

Insight for Living Broadcast

I didn't know much about grace, so I decided to read The Grace Awakening. I have learned a lot about letting people be different than me and realizing that God's grace doesn't condemn me but rather forgives and covers me with His righteousness! I shouldn't be a perfectionist because I can never do everything perfectly. If I let God work through me though, I will be living a life pleasing to Him! —T. Z. from Oklahoma
