Overview:

Ephesians 6:13-20

When we come to a passage such as Ephesians 6:13–20, our tendency is to think that we need to be strong in ourselves, that we need to get ourselves in shape for the battle. Wrong. We are actually mere sheep—we can’t fight, we don’t run very fast, and we don’t come across as very menacing to our enemies. And it is precisely because we are sheep that God’s armor is so important in our lives. He provides us access to His armor that we might have a chance of success in the battle against evil.

Message Summary:

In this pivotal message from the Becoming a People of Grace series, Pastor Chuck Swindoll addresses the common misconception that spiritual victory depends on our own strength or preparation. By focusing on Ephesians 6:13–20, he reminds us that believers are not naturally powerful warriors, but rather "weak sheep" who are prone to wandering and vulnerability.

The core of this teaching is the profound shift from self-reliance to God-reliance. Pastor Chuck explains that God’s armor is not a reward for the strong, but a necessary provision for the weak. This overview details the spiritual significance of the full armor of God and how each piece serves to protect the believer from the enemy's persistent attacks.

Insight for Living Broadcast

I am an intern Bible school student now, and I've been reading the book Improving Your Serve. I considered the book as God's resource for me to learn that there are struggles and pain in serving Him, from rejection and from other people's criticism. As a young lady who wants to serve God, the book added to my courage knowing that God holds my victory. —V. C. from The Philippines
