Dear Friend:
Recently, I was talking with a young man ensnared by addiction. His bravery ignited our conversation, and his sincere desire is to get “clean.” While the specific nature of his struggle is less significant than the weight of his pain, he has battled this for more than half his life.
Coming from a fractured home and lacking an emotionally healthy father, this man yearns for approval and connection. Although he shares a strong bond with his mother, emotional distance has created a chasm he knows he must bridge. During our talk, he expressed a renewed commitment to shed harmful influences and rely on the Lord amid his losses. Despite having a good job, the relentless stress of the high-pressure environment has brought him to his knees.
I chose to share this young man’s journey rather than another holiday story because it resonates with many of us this time of year. We all carry burdens, crave connection, and sometimes indulge in unhealthy comforts. This struggle doesn’t affect a generation or two; it ripples throughout our world.
Many of you may find yourselves in similar circumstances, and I want to assure you that Insight for Living is here to offer help and hope. Paul’s prayer in Romans 15:13 reminds us that God, the source of hope, will fill us completely with joy and peace because we trust in Him . . . then we will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
