Overview:

Ephesians 2:1-10

Contrasts dot the landscape of Scripture. Light and dark. Heaven and hell. Love and hate. Faith and works. Freedom and bondage. Life and death. Between every one of these contrasts, God alone makes the difference. Between love and hate stands God. Between heaven and hell stands God. Likewise, were it not for what God has done for us in Christ, death would be all we had to look forward to, while life eternal with Him remained a distant dream. Because of God’s work on our behalf, Christians now have the hope of redemption by grace through faith.

Message Summary:

Scripture is often a study in contrasts: light and dark, heaven and hell, life and death. In this foundational message from the Becoming a People of Grace series, Pastor Chuck Swindoll explores one of the most significant "before and after" snapshots in the Bible: Ephesians 2:1–7. Before we can truly appreciate the "artwork" of our salvation, we must understand the grim reality of the "trash heap" from which we were pulled.

This overview details the condition of spiritual death—living under the influence of the world, the flesh, and the devil—and the miraculous intervention of God. Pastor Chuck emphasizes that the two greatest words in the New Testament are "But God," marking the moment when divine mercy transforms a hopeless ending into a brand-new beginning.
