Position Summary

The Book Shoppe associate delivers excellent guest experiences that promote the mission of Insight for Living Ministries (IFLM) and Vision 195 while contributing to a “ministry-first” environment for customers. The associate serves as a liaison, connecting guests to IFLM resources and other publications carried in the Book Shoppe. Possessing familiarity with the ministry’s theology and doctrinal stances, the associate assists customers with theological questions or concerns in an accurate and thoughtful manner. A self-starter with a strong attention to detail, the associate warmly interacts with guests, ensuring they feel comfortable, relaxed, and have the opportunity to grow spiritually by interacting with IFLM materials.

Core Job Functions

Customer Service (40%)

  • Cultivates and maintains a customer-oriented environment where guests feel welcomed and relaxed to peruse the ministry’s products
  • Goes “above and beyond” to help customers with their questions, needs, and reasonable expectations
  • Builds lasting relationships through interactions that are warm, kind, and genuine
  • Ensures the appearance of the store is immaculate, according to ministry quality standards
  • Interacts with Shoppe Point-of-Sale system with accuracy and integrity
  • Assists the Coffee Shop staff, ensuring seating areas are clean and inviting

Merchandising (40%)

  • Ensures resources are readily stocked and displayed on shelves
  • Reshelves books, relocating mis-shelved items to their proper locations
  • Assists in moving stock and fixtures as merchandising plan requires
  • Informs supervisor of needed stock
  • Reports any pricing and SKU issues to the supervisor
  • Helps develop and implement seasonal or special merchandising presentations for the Shoppe
  • Learns and implements the Shoppe’s loss prevention guidelines
  • Prepares for and completes yearly inventory according to management guidelines

Marketing (5%)

  • Works with the Shoppe supervisor to implement marketing plans that promote the store and its products
  • Collaborates with the supervisor and director to execute special events hosted at the Shoppe
  • Provides customer feedback concerning resources and displays that enhance guest experiences

Professional Development (5%)

  • Commits to the challenges of personal growth and development according to the professional development plan
  • Pursues the designated knowledge and/or experience with a positive attitude
  • Completes assigned tasks with excellence and in a timely manner
  • Strives to become increasingly familiar with ministry resources and Book Shoppe offerings

Team Member Contribution (10%)

  • Models IFLM’s core values through daily conduct
  • Exerts initiative and drive to improve departmental and organizational operations

Position Specifications

Job Qualifications

  • Some college education strongly desired
  • Two-to-three years’ previous work experience, preferably in retail (book retail strongly preferred)
  • Ability to share the gospel succinctly and clearly
  • Some familiarity with IFLM as a ministry and its products and materials
  • Ability to relate and work well with people at all levels
  • Ability to communicate clearly, succinctly, and effectively
  • Strong emotional intelligence with an ability to balance building relationships with completing tasks
  • Strong customer service orientation and demeanor
  • Meticulous thoroughness in completing all responsibilities within specified timelines
  • Strong work ethic with an ability to take direction and a drive to excel
  • Humility, a high level of flexibility, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to stand, walk, and stoop throughout shift
  • Strong love of books, reading, and people
  • Ability to efficiently use Point-of-Sale systems and databases
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and ability to reasonably troubleshoot technical issues
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

IFLM is hiring full-time and part-time positions; all positions will include some weekend work.
